New Site - stuffandotherthings.com

So I’ve upgraded the “blog.” The new site is called stuff.and.other.things and will basically be the same as jeffdewolf.com/trivial pursuits. I noticed a lot of people weren’t looking at the sports related posts so I have an option to view the new site “sans sports.” It’s a backdoor thing so I may have to come up with something else for those of you who don’t watch sports and, god forbid, aren’t interested in the Oregon Ducks.

2008 Civil War Football Highlights (w/those U of O cheerleaders everyone seems to love) - This video was made by a Cal fan, who somewhat ironically may have lost the most in this game (if UCLA pulls the stunner). Warning to Beaver fans: do not watch this unless you are a masochist or your name is Evan “E-Dogg Skrilla Killa,” who made the lovely video of the massacre of 2008 between USC and Oregon. He deserves to have this video seared into his brain.

Highlights within the highlight reel:

- 2:22: JJ’s run during this play was only for about 14yds but shows a sick spin move and some nasty cuts. Too bad this guy really didnt get to develope as a full-time back.

- 2:52: D-Thomas, future stud (we hope), throws a bomb on a trick play.

- 3:08: JJ’s big TD run. He puts his stiffy in on #35 and basically punches the kid in the neck. “Are you kidding me? That’s Old Fashioned Football.” And another.

One thing I realize watching this is how fortunate Oregon was to have so many big plays. Truly incredible. To call it luck is to undermine how hard these kids and athletes in general work but watching the Ducks all season you may have known these plays were possible but it was about 1 or 2 a game. They just seemingly put it together on one day. I will say I overcame my hatred of calling a running play on 3rd and 15 a long, long time ago and I lost my faith in the defense being able to defend 3rd and long plays quite a while before that.

The best coaching jobs of the season - ESPN

1. Nick “Satan” Saban - Can’t argue this one. He reminds me of Bobby Knight and I love Bobby Knight.

2. Chris Petersen - Boise State fans keep telling me he’s happy in Boise and won’t leave…just a matter of the right job coming along. Why would you go to a true rebuilding job like Washington when you saw Urban Meyer go to Florida from Utah?

3. Brian Kelly - Can’t argue with back-to-back 10 win seasons. Another guy who has earned the right to wait for the right job.

4. Paul Johnson - I watched this team crush Miami and then get it done against Georgia last week. They had an up and down season but just missed out on the ACC championship game in his first year. The general consensus is the triple option is quite different than the previous offense so the future is bright once hand-picked recruits come in.

5. Jeff J. - No doubt there is only one Catholic University worth following and BC is it. They’re playing in the ACC championship game, what more can you ask?

6. Kyle Whittingham - Utah is a surprisingly good job; great fans, decent sized stadium and competitive pay. Again, I think he’ll pull the Urban Meyer and wait for something big, although his alma mater is BYU (not sure how that one would work).

7. Houston Nutt - My personal favorite coaching story of the 2008 season. Ole Miss went 8-4, Arkansas went 5-7 (and lost to Ole Miss). Sweet, sweet revenge.

8. Mike Riley - Might be the best coach in the country making adjustments and improving a team over the course of a season. It’s getting harder but I still can’t believe the slow starts are anything other than an anomaly. The Beavers have good but manageable OOC schedules the next couple of years so we will see if my theory is correct.

9. Brady Hoke - To be honest Ball State wasn’t on my radar until they were 8-0 or so. I’ve only watched them once but it was the Central Michigan game and they looked good, great QB.

10. Tim Brewster - Minnesota was awful last year and are 7-5 and bowl-bound this year so I understand putting him on here. But, this team is a house of cards.
